Does that means I'm double “It”? :) Well, first of all welcome to my little piece of the blog hop! I was tagged by Ashley Torbeck and Cathy Dougherty both fellow writers / bloggers. Thanks so much to both of them for tagging me. Now, I was also informed that there are a few rules to follow, and while I don't particularly care for rules, these are some pretty easy ones.
The rules for the blog hop are as follows:
****Give credit to the person/blog that tagged you
****Post the rules for the blog hop
****Answer these ten questions about your current WIP (Work In
Progress) on your blog
****Tag five other writers/bloggers and add their links so we can hop over and meet them
Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing:
What is the working title of your book?
The book I’m currently pimping, um I mean marketing, is This Time
You Lose. The book I’m currently writing is a sequel to This Time You Lose and is, as yet, unnamed.
Where did the idea come from for your book?
Years ago, a neighboring community was plagued with a series of home invasions. A childcare provider myself at the time, I wondered what would happen if one of these invasions occurred in a childcare home. A woman home alone, caring for up to a dozen children in a deserted, middle-class neighborhood made the perfect target for one of these invasions – and thus my story was born.
What genre does your book fall under?
This Time You Lose falls in the suspense thriller genre. Although I’ve had several people say it could go in the horror genre as well. Not so sure about that though…it contains no vampires, ghosts, or paranormal stuff. I guess you could think of it as a real life horror - the kind that could happen to almost anybody.
Which actors would you chose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Funny, that’s a question I posted to fans on the kindle boards. Their recommendations are as follows:
Lisa = Hillary Swank / Maura Tierney / Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Tito = Colin Ferrel / Johnny Depp
Jimmy = Justin Long
Lt. Sims = Morgan Freeman / Steve Buscemi
Peter Vonoson = Keven Spacey / Matt Damon / Bruce Willis
What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
This Time You Lose is the terrifying story of one woman’s struggle to survive when she and the children she cares for become victims of a home invasion gone terribly wrong.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
This Time You Lose is self-published, or as I prefer to call it - independently published. The indie author community is like a family, and they all tend to respect and help one another, well, most of the time anyway! :)
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
The first draft for This Time You Lose took me six months. That was followed by eighteen months of editing, rewriting, more editing, more
rewriting, giving up, editing yet again, and then finally sending it out into
What other books would you compare this story to within your
I can’t really say. Readers tell me it’s like a James Patterson novel,
but I feel my story is a bit different in that it has very little in the way of
“extras”. No “extra” details, plot lines, conspiracies, romantic entanglements, etc. It’s simply a thriller. A fun read, with a story that could actually happen.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
Hmmm, I guess the answer to this question would be the same as the answer I gave to one of the questions above. Years ago, a neighboring community was plagued with a series of home invasions. A childcare
provider myself at the time, I wondered what would happen if one of these
invasions occurred in a childcare home. A woman home alone, caring for up to a dozen children in a deserted, middle-class neighborhood made the perfect target for one of these invasions – and thus my story was born.
What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?
Well, in September 2012 This Time You Lose was named a finalist for The
Kindle Book Review Best Indie Books 2012 Award.
Way back in 2008, while I was still writing/rewriting/editing This Time You
Lose, it was named a finalist in the TNBW Strongest Start Novel
Competition. Four months later it earned the distinction of being a TNBW Readers Choice Top Ten Novel, and has remained on the Top Ten list ever since.
And…..in addition to all that hoopla….This Time You Lose is the only suspense thriller that I know of that features a childcare provider as heroine. There are no secret CIA affiliations, no secret karate-ninja black belt training, and no illicit drug war connection. Simply a regular person, in a regular job, who not only finds herself in a position where hard choices have to be made, but must live with the results of those choices.
